Transit Information

Vancouver has a vast network of public transit that links the suburbs with the downtown core. Traveling is made easy using the SkyTrain, West Coast Express, SeaBus, and public buses.

 

The SkyTrain has 33 stations and has two lines - the Expo Line and the Millenium Line. It travels above traffic and underground, which means that car traffic will not interfere with its scheduled stops. The elevated guideways also mean that you will have a better view of Vancouver and its surrounding areas. The SkyTrain links to other transportation services offered to the public.

 

The West Coast Express connects downtown Vancouver with Mission, Port Haney, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam and Port Moody. It operates from Mondays to Fridays with five round trips during the weekdays. The downtown Vancouver stations also functions as a SkyTrain, bus and SeaBus station.

 

The SeaBus is a passenger ferry that seats 400 people and links the North Shore with downtown Vancouver . It takes passengers on a scenic trip across the Burrard Inlet in 12 minutes. The SeaBus stations are also bus stations. Also, the Waterfront Stations (downtown Vancouver ) is a SkyTrain station and the West Coast Express.

 

The public buses in Vancouver cover a vast area of the Greater Vancouver Regional District (the GVRD). Most buses also have stations near SkyTrain stations allowing for an easy transfer between these services.

 

Tips for Transit use:

  1. A Transit ticket can be used on all these services are transferable, however, pay close attention to the time limit on the ticket. After the time indicated on the ticket has run out the ticket is no longer valid and another ticket must be purchased.
  2. You can purchase a booklet of tickets from various locations. This way you don't need to carry change with you (as buses don't provide change) and you will save money (since you are buying a package).
  3. Before getting on a bus, check the bus number and the destination (on the front of the bus), as buses with the same number run in opposite direction. Also, buses with the same destination may take different routes.
  4. If you are unsure which stop is yours, tell the bus driver to notify
