$500 Canadian Bill Saved from Shredder, sold at auction for $322,000

A rare $500 Canadian bill from 1911 was “seconds” away from the shredder,
was sold at a recent auction for the bargain price of $322,000 US. The vintage bill was one of three ever created and features the image of Queen Mary. Apparently it is a very conservative result comparative to other mature banknote markets

The bill was discovered in Ontario by accident and could easily have ended up in the garbage.
A relative of someone who had passed away was cleaning out an office, going through the deceased’s personal possessions and a pile of documents were in or on a desk. The family’s name and hometown are not known.

The auction house described the bill as a “classic rarity” that had undergone only minor restoration.

A FUTURE WITHOUT BREAST CANCER? Another successful CIBC Run for the Cure

Posted by Blogger on October 8th, 2008

Imagine raising $28.5 million dollars to help get to a future without breast cancer? 170 000 Canadians across the country achieved this by dedicated fundraising and this culminated in the 17th Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s CIBC Run for the Cure in 55 communities across the country.

I happened to be one of those fundraisers and feel proud to have been part of this effort to strive to achieve an end to breast cancer. Too many people I know have lost loved ones, or have been affected by breast cancer, and together we can make a difference to find the cure.
